About me

Hi, I am Tanja and welcome to Liveyourgreens, a little space where I can share with you some of my favourite plant based recipies that I cook everyday that are both nourishing, cheap and easy to prepare for the whole family.

I have spent most of my life in Germany only recently moving to Australia where I live happily in Fremantle, Western Australia with my partner and his two young children. I like to spend my time cooking, growing and exploring Fremantle and Perth for amazing produce and great dining options (there are so many!). Its not All about food though, Perth has some of the best beaches in the world and many hours are spent soaking in the sunshine and swimming in the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean. I love to Travel and frequent Margaret River often to relax, unwind and enjoy the endless options of amazing food and wine the region has to offer.

My passion for cooking

My passion for food and cooking started when I became a vegetarian at the age of 15, where I began to explore amazing combinations of foods and flavours that I had never tasted before. For the last 7 years I have been on a purely plant based diet and I have honestly never felt so well nourished (and I have to admit that I had many prejudices about veganism before!).

I enjoy knowing what exactly is in my food. Not just in terms of the ingredients, but also the nutrients. That's why I've learned a lot about nutrition and the occurrence of nutrients in food in recent years.

Why vegan?

Environment

A plant-based diet can have numerous positive effects on the environment, including preserving biodiversity, protecting water bodies, using resources more sustainably, and reducing climate change. Animal agriculture is responsible for 18 percent of greenhouse gas emissions, more than the combined exhaust from all transportation. It is the leading cause of species extinction, ocean dead zones, water pollution, and habitat destruction

Animals

Whether pigs, cows, chickens or fish - countless animals suffer in factory farming and industrial fishing. All of these animals are sentient beings, but cannot live out their complex social structures in captivity. A plant-based diet minimizes the number of animals that have to live in these conditions and is easier than ever thanks to the increasing variety of alternatives to meat and dairy products.

Health

It is generally accepted that a plant-based lifestyle offers numerous advantages over a diet based on animal products. A diet based on animal foods poses various health risks. On the other hand, a varied plant-based diet can help prevent many of today's diseases of civilization.
